Individual Therapy occurs when a Patient works one-on-one with a trained therapist. Patients may meet with their therapist for short-term work or as long as several years, depending on the specific Patient needs. The frequency of regularly scheduled sessions is based on the severity of the issue and the amount of support the Patient requires.
Within Individual Therapy, the therapist encourages Patients to explore their feelings, beliefs or behaviors. Patients will learn to better understand themselves and others as well as cope with the demands of daily life.
Dr. Cramer-Hammann uses primarily Cognitive-Behavior Therapy and Solution Focused Therapy as the main vehicles for reaching Patient goals. CBT examines thoughts, feelings and behaviors and the relationship between them. Negative thought patterns are addressed and maladaptive behaviors are altered. SFT looks for solutions rather problems. This form of psychotherapy relies on clear, concise and realistic goals. It is important to determine the Patient's vision of the solution and work toward its achievement.
