In Family Therapy, the family unit is seen as a unique social system with its own structure and patterns of communication. Families enter into therapy when the structure is not conducive to healthy development or there is maladaptive communication. Family Systems Therapy maintains that there is often an identified Patient who is the symptom bearer for the family. In addition, there is the premise that any change in one family member affects the entire family system.
In her work with families, Dr. Cramer-Hammann hopes to assist families through:
Educating the family on healthy family structure, roles and expectations
Encouraging a focus on the family as a whole and not on the individual
Developing strategies that allow the family to identify and resolve conflicts
Helping the family learn how to work together and take responsibility
Teaching parents means of coping with parenting and developmental issues.
Contact Dr. Cramer-Hammann if you would like to arrange for an initial session for your family.
